Keith Murphy
Biograph
After a brief stint as an “Air Force brat” Keith was raised on a tobacco farm in Eastern Kentucky. He received a BA in Radio-Television from Morehead State University, a MA in Speech Communication from Miami (Ohio) and a doctorate in Rhetoric from Ohio University. Keith coached intercollegiate speech and debate for over 15 years. He taught for seven years at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne before heading south for warmer weather. He has spent the last 16 years teaching Literature, Composition, Speech, Mass Communication and Philosophy for Fort Valley State University in Georgia where he is a full professor and Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences. Along the way, Keith has taught at the college level for over 25 years, worked over ten years in radio, and he has worked as an actor, magician, comedian, webmaster, and a cave guide among other odd jobs. As an author he has penned 4 book chapters, 11 articles for academic journals, 20 articles for academic presentations, 88 articles for reference books, 17 articles for popular magazines and writes as a sports stringer for a number of web sites. Keith has won numerous awards for teaching, having been named to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” 4 times. He received a faculty research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 2003. In December of 2004, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. Murphy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the fall of 2003. (He also finds it difficult to write about himself in the third person.)
